The Sand Gants beat West Virginia 6-4 and it was Joe Holden who pounded home three of those runs for Savannah. He went two for five with a triple and a homerun in the win. Francisco Pena also had a nice game and he went two for five with a homerun and two RBIs.
Jonathan Castillo improved to 4-3 with a decent start. He gave up three runs on five hits with four strikeouts in six solid frames.
The Sand Gnats and RiverDogs made their rain out game up and each team walked away with a win. The first game highighted a decent start by Greg Mullens, who improved to 4-2 on the season. Francisco Pena was the hitting star and he went one for two with a run and an RBI in the 4-3 win.
Game two didn’t go nearly as well. The Gnats were held to just one run on five hits and the lone run was driven in by Hector Pellot on a sac. fly. Ryan Meyers took the loss and he gave up one run in his one inning.
Francisco Pena had a great day at the plate in the Sand Gnats 9-5 win over Rome. He went two for three with a homerun, two RBIs and two runs scored.
Josh Stinson picked up the win with a decent outing. He gave up four runs on four hits and a walk with one strikeout in seven innings. Three of the four hits he gave up were homeruns.
The Sand Gnats played two and they finished with a split in their doubleheader with Kannapolis. Josh Stinson was hit hard in the 7-5 loss and he dropped to 1-5 on the season. Francisco Pena hit a solo homerun and Brahiam Maldonado went two for three with two doubles and a run.
Game two went better and the Sand Gnats won it 6-5. Maldonado went two for three with a run and two RBIs Jeremy Mizel picked up the win with 2 1/3 innings of shutout relief.
Jorge Reyes threw five shutout innings and he gave up just four hits with four walks and five strikeouts in the Sand Gnats win over Asheville. David Wabeck drove in three runs in the 5-1 win while Francisco Pena went four for four with a double and a run.
