The Zephyrs took a 1-0 lead in their series with the Sounds behind some solid pitching by Dave Williams and the bullpen as well as some timely hitting. Williams gave up one run in 6 1/3 innings while Ivan Maldonado got the final two outs and he picked up the win.
Robinson Cancel singled home David Newhan in the bottom of the ninth to break a 2-2 tie to win it. Fernando Tatis was the only Zephyrs hitter with more then one hit.
The Zephyrs outscored Las Vegas 9-8 and they out hit them 15=14 as the pitching went out the window in this one. Jason Alfaro went three for four with a double, a run and an RBI. Ricky Ledee and Andy Tracy each hit two runs homers in the win.
Ryan Cullen picked up the win but it was more of a right place, right time situation because he also gave up the lead in his one inning of work. Ivan Maldonado struck out the final two batters and he picked up his third save of the season.
