A eighth inning comeback attempt by the Zephyrs fell short in a 4-3 loss that ended New Orleans’ season with a three game sweep at the hands of the Sacramento River Cats. The three eighth inning runs came on a three run blast by Fernando Tatis but it wasn’t enough.
Jason Vargas took the loss with a tough start. He gave up four runs (three earned) on six hits and two walks with three strikeouts in six innings.

The Zephyrs got it all in their 11-1 win over Salt Lake. Jason Vargas threw a gem of a game and he gave up just one run on three hits and one walk with seven strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings. The win pushes his record to 4-3 on the season.
Ricky Ledee had a big day at the plate. He went three for five with a double, a homerun, five RBIs and two runs. Sandy Alomar, Jr. went two for four with a three run homer and Chip Ambres went two for four with an RBI and three runs.
The Zephyrs won both games of their doubleheader with Colorado Springs and they got some quality pitching in both games. The first game was a 5-2 win with Philip Humber having a nice start. He gave up two runs on ten hits with seven strikeouts in six innings. Jake Gautreau went two for three with a double, a homerun, two RBIs and two runs.
Jason Vargas picked up the win in the second game. He gave up three runs on six hits and two walks with five strikeouts in six innings. Andy Tracy homered for the thirteenth time this season and he drove in two runs.
Jason Vargas was hit hard and he took the loss in a 10-1 beatdown. He gave up six runs (five earned) on seven hits and two walks with one strikeout four innings.
Mike DeFelice drove in the only run for the Zephyrs. Fernando Tatis tripled and he scored the only run.

The Zephyrs won 6-5 and a lot of that is because of a great start by Jason Vargas. He improved to 2-0 on the season and he gave up one run on one hit and three walks with five strikeouts in six innings of work.
Fernando Tatis hit a two run homer and that was his second long ball this year. Carlos Gomez drove in two runs and Lastings Milledge went one for two with a run and an RBI.

Andy Tracy had a monster game at the plate. He went three for four with two homeruns and three RBIs. Ruben Gotay doubled twice, drove in two runs and scored once.
You hate these kind of games. The Zephyrs came back from a two run deficit and took a 3-2 lead but the a run in the eighth and another run in the ninth meant a 4-3 loss at the hands of Nashville.
