The Sand Gants beat West Virginia 6-4 and it was Joe Holden who pounded home three of those runs for Savannah. He went two for five with a triple and a homerun in the win. Francisco Pena also had a nice game and he went two for five with a homerun and two RBIs.
Jonathan Castillo improved to 4-3 with a decent start. He gave up three runs on five hits with four strikeouts in six solid frames.
Jonathan Castillo gave up three hits and a run in the bottom of the eleventh as the Sand Gnats lost to Rome 3-2. Matt Durkin gave up two runs on three hits and three walks with one strikeout in six innings.
Joe Holden went two for five with a double and a run in the loss. Leivi Ventura went one for three with two walks and an RBI.
Tobi Stoner dropped to 0-3 in a loss to Savannah but this one was a tough one because outside of a tough first inning, he threw a nice game. While he was credited with three runs, the final run that put Savannah ahead came off a double by Jonathan Castillo that he inherited from Stoner so the pen deserves some credit in the loss as well. Stoner did strike out four in 4 1/3 innings and from the end of the first inning on, he retired eleven consecutive batters.
Josh Thole was the only Sand Gnat with two hits in the game. He went two for four with two doubles and he scored one of the two runs.
