The Sand Gnats lost two games in one day with pretty much a complete lack of offense in either game. In the first game, the Sand Gnats were shutout 5-0. Josh Stinson gave up five runs in five innings and he took the loss. Juan Lagares had two of the Sand Gnats five hits.
The Sand Gnats actually scored in the second game and the pitching was better. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough. A nice start by Tim Stonrach went to waste in the 2-1 loss. He gave up one run on four hits and two walks with two strikeouts in seven solid innings. Josh Thole singled twice and he drove in the only run in either game for the Sand Gnats.
The Sand Gnats got some nice pitching in both games of their doubleheader against the Cat Fish. In the first game, Matt Durkin threw a nice game and improved to 1-2 on the season. He gave up one run on four hits and two walks with three strikeouts in five innings of work. Juan Lagares provided the offense in the 2-1 win with a two run homer.
In the second game, Greg Mullens improved to 3-1 with a nice start. He gave up one run on six hits and two walks with three strikeouts in five innings of work. Josh Thole singled, drove in two and scored a run while Joe Holden went two for three with a run in the 4-1 win.
I’m not sure why he was left in there for so long but Todd Privatt had an absolutely ugly box score in his start against Kannapolis. He gave up ten runs on fourteen hits and a walk with two strikeouts in three innings in the 10-4 loss.
Most of the Sand Gnats offense came on a three run homer by Leivi Ventura. Daniel Stegall, Juan Lagares and Hector Pellot each had two hits and a run.
The Sand Gnats still haven’t won and today they were doubled up by Asheville. Joshua Stinson gave up three runs in four inning and Matthew Durkin was also knocked around for three runs in 3 1/3 innings.
At the plate, Leivi Ventura had three hits and Juan Lagares was also solid. He went two for four with a run and an RBI.
