A eighth inning comeback attempt by the Zephyrs fell short in a 4-3 loss that ended New Orleans’ season with a three game sweep at the hands of the Sacramento River Cats. The three eighth inning runs came on a three run blast by Fernando Tatis but it wasn’t enough.
Jason Vargas took the loss with a tough start. He gave up four runs (three earned) on six hits and two walks with three strikeouts in six innings.
Going on golf vacations can be quite relaxing. You don’t even have to worry about carrying golf carts or bringing your own golf clubs. All kinds of golf equipment can be arranged from the local sports shop. You can also enjoy a bit of basketball in between.
The Zephyrs blew it in the ninth inning as they dropped to a two game deficit in their serie with the River Cats for the PCL Championship. Carlos Muniz was tagged for those two runs in the ninth inning but the game winner actually came with Ryan Cullen throwing so he shares some of the blame. It’s too bad because a nice start by Dave Williams went to waste. He gave up just one run in seven innings.
No Zephyr had no more then one hit while Fernando Tatis had the only extra base hit. He doubled, drove in a run and scored.
The Zephyrs dropped game one of the PCL championship to the River Cats 5-3 but buried in the loss was a terrific individual performance by David Newhan. He went three for five and two of those hits went over the fence. Unfortunately, there just wasn’t anyone on base.
Ryan Cullen picked up a hard luck loss. He gave up just one run but it was unearned in 2/3 of an inning.
Kevin Mulvey gave up just four hits and he struck out eight in seven shutout innings as the Zephyrs pulled off a 6-0 win that moved them to the PCL Finals. Carlos Muniz was very solid in two shutout innings of relief to close the game out. He didn’t allow a single baserunner and he struck out two.
Jesus Feliciano was the hitting star and he played a role in four of the Zephyr’s six runs. He went three for four with a double, a homerun, three RBIs and two runs.
The Zephyrs failed to sweep Nashville as they blew a one run lead in the ninth and then lost in the tenth. Ivan Maldanado gave up they tying run in the ninth and then Ryan Cullen took the loss when he gave up the losing run in the tenth.
Chip Ambres put the Zephyrs on the board in the first inning with a big three run homer in the 6-5 loss. Jesus Feliciano went three for five and he scored a run.
The Zephyrs took a 2-0 lead and pushed themselves to within one win of the PCL Championship series behind a great outing by Jason Vargas. He gave up one run on just three hits with four strikeouts six innings.
Andy Tracy belted a big two run homer in the first inning to help get the Zephyrs started. Chad Hermansen had three hits and he drove in two runs in the 5-1 win.
The Zephyrs took a 1-0 lead in their series with the Sounds behind some solid pitching by Dave Williams and the bullpen as well as some timely hitting. Williams gave up one run in 6 1/3 innings while Ivan Maldonado got the final two outs and he picked up the win.
Robinson Cancel singled home David Newhan in the bottom of the ninth to break a 2-2 tie to win it. Fernando Tatis was the only Zephyrs hitter with more then one hit.
