Richard Pena had a big day at the plate in Kingsport’s 7-6 win over Princeton. He went three for three with a homerun, two RBIs and three runs. Darren Clark went two for five with two doubles, a run and an RBI.
Manuel Olivares picked up the win with four solid innings of relief. He gave up one run on four hits with two strikeouts.
Since Kingsport’s home opener was rained out, their first day of games turned into a doubleheader and unfortunately, they lost both. In the first game, Elizabethton destroyed Kingsport 15-1. Elvin Ramirez was shelled for seven runs in three innings and Richard Pena went two for three.
Game two was closer but a loss is a loss. Angel Calero was hit hard for six runs on nine hits in 3 2/3 innings. The big story was Marcos Tabata. He got ten batters out and nine of those were by strikeouts. He ended up giving up one hit and three walks in 3 1/3 innings. Daniel Stegall tripled, drew two walks and drove in three in the game.
